Aradale claims strong win as Chalambar Golf moves clear
Aradale Bowling Club produced a strong win over Landsborough and District Bowling Club, while Chalambar Golf Bowls Club moved two clear at the top of the ladder following round 11 of the Grampians Playing Area Lawn Bowls weekend pennant competition.
Aradale won all three rinks on the day and weren’t challenged. Gary Jamieson’s rink, featuring Gary Sherwell, Peter Oehm and Michael Dowling, enjoyed the biggest win, 41-13.
Daniel Mahoney’s rink, featuring Flynn Jamieson, Daniel Foster and Nathan Sladdin, also enjoyed a strong win, 30-16.
The thrilling rink of the day was captained by Daniel Todd. Featuring Brett Sladdin, David Todd, and Ken Mahney, they won 20-16.
The win ensured Aradale stays fourth on the ladder, equal with Stawell heading into the Christmas break.
Chalambar Golf handed Ararat VRI their second loss of the season, moving two games clear at the top of the ladder following an 82-42 win.
Chalambar Golf didn’t have it their own way, winning two rinks on the day.
Grant Seeary’s rink, featuring Mark Griffits, Michael Jennings and Hans Holz, won 33-17, and Tony Carra’s rink, featuring Jess Austin, Terry O’Connell and Gary Todd, won 24-14.
Ararat VRI’s winning rink was skippered by Clayton Holcombe. Featuring Craig Wight, Richard Schwab and Shelley Holcombe, they won 31-25.
Lake Bolac and District continued their mid-season revival, winning their third consecutive match, defeating Ararat 93-62, winning all three rinks.
Ian Park’s rink, featuring Roger Flanner, Robert Stewart and John McInnes, had a commanding 35-20 win.
Jonathan Park’s rink, featuring Andrew Robertson, Judith Veale and Colin McKenzie, won 32-21.
The closest rink was skippered by Rodney Ford. Featuring Raymond McLeod, Phillip Meek and Kenneth Thom, they won 26-21.
It was only three weeks ago, Lake Bolac and District secured their first win of the season, and they will be confident moving forward when competition resumes in the new year.
In the local derby between Stawell and Stawell Golf, played at Stawell Bowling Club, it was the home side prevailing in a thriller, 75-69.
In Division Two, Aradale defeated Aradale Blue 79-48, Ararat VRI defeated Chalambar Golf 73-65, Lake Bolac and District defeated Ararat 101-58, and Stawell defeated Stawell Golf 65-60.
The competition will now go on their Christmas hiatus, with the Bowls returning January 17.
