President of Ararat Suicide Awareness Prevention Group Caterina Di Domenico-Linton said the annual walk and service is a reflective and fulfilling exercise for many people

“Having the opportunity to attend a memorial such as this gives families and friends permission to come together with a common cause, to grieve, remember and honour their loved ones tragically lost to suicide in a safe, supported and welcoming environment,” she said.

“With Christmas fast approaching many of us will feel the strain on our mental health, and this can be for various reasons, a death, ill health, financial, family conflict, carer load, homelessness.

“The holiday period can be a very lonely and difficult time, especially when you've lost someone you love,” she said.

“You're supposed to be celebrating (Christmas) but inside you are still mourning the loss of your loved one, and when that loss is sudden and tragic, as in the case of suicide, the grief can become overwhelming and almost paralysing; stopping you in your tracks.”

The guest speaker at this years’ service will be prominent Ararat policeman Sergeant Shane Allgood.

The memorial walk and service will be held today - Saturday 15th November 2025 at the Ararat Alexandra Gardens from 11am to 12:30pm, followed by a light lunch.

“I encourage you to attend this safe and supported event,” Ms Di Domenico-Linton said.

“Suicide is devastating, and the ripple effect is far reaching. You will not be alone we will all be there for each other.”
