From November 14 to 16, local residents Earlene Gellert and Ellen McCartney-Lees will host the sixth annual Created Works of Art Weekend, a showcase of local talent held at the shearing quarters of a rural Willaura property.

The event kicks off from 5:30pm Friday with the official opening of the newly named ‘Walanga’ Studio and Workshop, followed by two full days of art displays and demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday from 10am.

Featuring works from across the Willaura, Glenthompson, and Lake Bolac areas, the weekend promises a diverse range of creations including quilting, pottery, jewellery, woodworking, textiles, and clothing.

Many of the handmade pieces will also be available for purchase, a perfect chance to get a head start on Christmas shopping.

In addition to the art displays, the weekend will support a meaningful cause, with a Christmas fundraising stall raising money for St Peter’s Anglican Church in Glenthompson, contributing to the construction of a meeting room and toilet block at the site.

Organiser Earlene Gellert is hoping to expand on past years, which typically saw 8–10 artists exhibit.

“It’s a fabulous event that brings people together. We bring together local artists from the Willaura, Glenthompson, Lake Bolac areas,” she said.

This year’s stall will include not just giftware’s but also garden gifts, baked goods, and raffle prizes, offering something for everyone.

Earlene is welcoming interest from both local artists and volunteers who would like to take part or donate to the stall.

“If there are artists that wish to participate, I'd be most happy to have a talk with them,” she said.

The Created Works of Art Weekend will be held at 357 Blue Gum Road, Willaura.
