Baggies finish season on a winning note
Swifts senior footballers finished their frustrating season on a high, defeating Pimpinio by 24 points at North Park in round 18 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.

Having played finals the last two seasons, the Baggies needed a miracle to play finals, but it wasn’t to be.
They started strong in the first quarter to try and give themselves a chance of finals, kicking six goals to one to lead by 28 points at quarter-time.
Pimpinio bounced back in the second quarter, kicking three goals to two to reduce the deficit to 19 points at half-time.
The Baggies came out firing in the third, kicking early goals, and were able to extend their margin back out to 37 points at three-quarter time.
Pimpinio, battling for third place on the ladder, and a second chance, never gave up in the last, fighting back, but the Swifts' lead was too strong, holding on to win 17.7.109 to 12.13.85.
Jordan Motton starred up forward again, kicking five goals, which brought his tally to 60 for the season, second on the goalkicking list, ten behind the winner Jacob Eats.
Kobe Lowe kicked three goals, while Chris Freeman and Cameron Wickham both hit the scoreboard with two.
Angus Murray was best-on-ground and is a strong chance of winning the Dellar Medal, for the best and fairest in the competition, which will be announced in three weeks.
Brett Hargreaves, in his last game as coach, was also one of the best players on the ground alongside Chris Freeman, Bourke Nicholls, Ryan Folkes and Jordan Motton.
Brett Hargreaves said that while it was a frustrating season, there’s a lot to look forward to in 2026.
“When you don’t defeat a team above you on the ladder, it makes it hard to play finals,” he said.
“Recruiting-wise, however, it shows potential players that we aren’t far off.
“It wasn’t our year, and we just needed a couple more recruits, so the future is positive.”
Hargreaves praised Angus Murray for his outstanding season.
“He has had a great year, and I said to him during the week that he is an A-Grade player now,” he said.
“It has been a pleasure watching him grow into that, and I love watching him play and what he does with the ball and the number of kilometres he runs.
“My co-coach Ryan Folkes also played a great game, one of his best I have seen him play.”
“The backline also held up well, led by Liam Scott, who had a tremendous game.”
Hargreaves said that he has enjoyed coaching the last five years and will continue to play.
“I love football even though I am getting older and slower,” he said.
“I have loved coaching and loved seeing the blokes grow up.
“It has been testing at times, but it was worth it, and I’m glad I took it up, and it's something I will look back on fondly.
