Blandford guides Bulls to victory
An unbeaten 72 from Jarrod Blandford has led the Beaufort Bulls to a massive seven-wicket win over Clunes at Goldfields Recreation Reserve in round seven of the Maryborough and District Cricket Association’s A-Grade competition.
Blandford’s 72 came off 107 balls, and with the help of Lachlan Oddie, who scored 35, they finished at 3/146, chasing 145 for victory.
Earlier in the day, the Bulls lost the toss and were sent into bowl, and opening bowlers, David Morse and Theo Trevelyan-Clark, immediately pressured the Clunes top order with tight, precision bowling.
The duo was bowling that well together that they bowled out their eight overs in succession, after having Clunes in trouble at 5/34.
The Clunes middle order provided resistance, and it was Brandon Walsh who did the damage, taking three of the last four wickets to restrict Clunes to 9/145 off their 40 overs.
Walsh was the pick of the bowlers with 3/24 (6), while Trevelyan-Clark and Morse finished with 2/17 (8) and 2/25 (8), respectively.
The win sees Beauford two games clear in fourth place on three wins, and tomorrow they host third-placed Maryborough at Goldfields Recreation Reserve.
It is a big day for the club, turning the field orange in recognition of 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM. The whole club is standing up against Domestic Violence and will be raising funds for WRISC-Central Highlands.
President, Andrew Oddie, said they had hoped to play with an orange ball, but will still have orange around the ground.
“With Maryborough wearing a yellow uniform, playing with an orange ball wasn’t feasible, but we will be wearing orange hats, and there will be orange stumps,” he said.
“It’s a big day for the club as we are tying it in with our sponsors' day and will hopefully get a few people to the club.
“Domestic violence is an issue in all areas, and we want to put a positive spin as much as we can to promote Beaufort Cricket Club as a safe place for both children and women.”
In the A-Reserve competition, Beaufort Blue suffered a 143-run defeat to Clunes. After winning the toss and batting, Clunes made 8/230 from their 40 overs.
Adam Miller was the star for Beaufort, taking four wickets, finishing with figures of 4/29 (6).
In reply, Beaufort was bowled out for 87 in 33 overs.
Ben Woolidge led the way with 19 runs, while Brady Edwards scored 18.
Tomorrow, Beaufort Blue hosts Maryborough, and Beaufort Red travels to JH Hedges Memorial Oval to take on Colts Phelans.
The Beaufort under-15 mixed team suffered a 72-run defeat to Ballarat Redan White at Goldfields Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
Ballarat Redan made 4/92 off 19.5 overs, with Trinity Arch the pick of the Beaufort bowlers with figures of 2/9 (3). Dillan Wade took the other wicket, finishing with 1/20 (3), while Luka Pollono took the other dismissal, running out Vitorio Soloman.
Beaufort finished with 8/20, with Bailey McPhan top-scoring with nine runs off 22 balls opening the batting.
