Blooming busy for Mother’s Day
FLORISTS worked around the clock this week in preparation for one of their busiest times of the year. At Ararat’s Zest Living, florist Kristy Fenn was flat out ensuring there are plenty of blooms available for locals looking to spoil their mums this year.
In the days leading up to the occasion, the shop floor was filled with bouquets, with Kristy describing the week as an enormous undertaking but worthwhile to bring a smile to mums everywhere.
“People enjoy them, because it’s not something that people go out and buy for themselves, particularly at the moment,” she said.
“Just receiving a fresh bunch of flowers to have in their home, it makes them smile every day. It’s the thought behind it. It’s about living in the now.”
Traditional pastel tones remain the most popular choice for Mother’s Day arrangements.
Seasonal mixed bouquets and native arrangements are also in demand, particularly for their longevity, with many customers noting their flowers last for weeks.
While last year orders were accepted up until the Friday before Mother’s Day, Kristy is hoping supply levels will allow for similar flexibility this year.
For those looking for convenience, ready-made arrangements were also on offer.
“I always do my best to have something made up, so at least you can come in and check out what we have available,” she said.
“We’ve got vase arrangements which is a good idea because then people can take them already in water and not have to worry about that.”
