The 18-year-old was selected for the MX3 riders’ class after a successful season. He has competed around Australia for the past ten years and has been racing regional events, Victorian State Titles, Australian Titles and has competed in a few national titles over the past two years.

Boyd said he got his first motorbike for a Christmas present, and it went from there.

“My parents got me my first motorbike, and I was riding it a lot out of the bus with friends,” Boyd said.

“I then decided to take up Motocross when I was seven and have enjoyed it ever since.”

Boyd recalled the moment he was notified it was selected and said it’s his biggest achievement in the sport to date, after previously finishing fifth in Australia in the 14-16 age group in 2022.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because of the age group I’m in, I’m just at the peak of it, and it’s the last time I will ever do it in this age group,” Boyd said.

“It felt pretty good. It was a lot of effort throughout the year, and I have done a lot of hard work.

“I go to the gym twice a week and swim twice a week, and hopefully next year will be more on the bike training, which will make a huge difference.”

Boyd competed in the Australian Supercross for the first time last season, which is run over five rounds in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria.

He said that he is looking forward to his second season later in the year.

“Last year it was a learning curve as it’s a completely different atmosphere,” Boyd said.

“I will take what I learned from last season, and looking forward to next season.”

In September, there will be scouts at the world championships, and Boyd expressed his future goals.

“The dream will be to race in America. As there are scouts at Darwin, it’s a good opportunity to get recognised,” Boyd said.

Boyd thanked his parents, Cristie and Wayne, who have driven him everywhere to compete. Since May, they have travelled over 9000km, and average around 50,000km per year.

“They mean the world to me,” Boyd said.

“They have done a lot of driving over the years, spent money and have taken a lot of time off work and I can’t thank them enough.”
