Boys Choir wows Ararat
MORE than 100 local residents were treated to a rare performance by the National Boys Choir in Ararat last week.
Ararat’s Holy Trinity Anglican Church was filled to capacity as people came to hear one of the world’s most acclaimed boys’ choirs.
The National Boys Choir of Australia was founded in 1964 and has established itself as one of Australia’s finest treble choirs.
The Choir is made up of approximately 150 boys aged between seven and fifteen years commencing with a two-year training period before moving into the performing choir.
Choristers are trained in the traditional bel canto style.
Repertoire includes music ranging from early motets through to contemporary commissioned works and semi-staged children’s operas, as well as musical comedy, art songs and folk songs from around the world.
The choir is currently on the “Out Into The West” tour which has taken members to Geelong, Ararat and Hamilton for performances.
At Monday night’s concern, residents were treated to a variety of music including classical, folk and popular songs including excerpts from Australian composer Stephen Leek’s Batavia.
Anglican Priest Father Martin Nadarajan said it was a superb performance enjoyed by everyone.
“I was so pleased by the big number of people who came out to hear and support the choir.
‘It was a truly superb concert enjoyed by everyone,” he said.
