All of Ararat’s five bank branches have been the subject of closure speculation in recent years as more and more people turn to internet banking.

But the NAB branch recently underwent extensive renovations including new floor coverings, painting, new blinds and signage and an updated customer area.

Branch Manager Jane Lincoln said the investment in the branch is a sign the NAB is in Ararat for the long term.

“It just gives our community a bit more awareness that we’re staying, we’re not going anywhere, we’re open to our community,” she said.

Ms Lincoln said new touch screens have also been installed allowing customers without internet access the option of internet banking within the branch.

“If they don’t have a laptop or desktop at home they can come into the branch and do everything they need to at the branch,” Ms Lincoln said.

Asked if the Ararat branch would reverse its decision to cut operating hours, NABs Jarrod Swanson said anything was possible.

“We recently had Mansfield branch revert back from the shorter hours in the morning to full trade hours. It’s something that we’ve got in the pipeline we’re just working through strategic planning around what sites will take priority,” he said.
