Bretherton and Cameron crowned Grange champions
Grange Golf Club has crowned its 2026 Men’s and Ladies Club Champions following the third round of the club championships, with Caleb Bretherton and Kaylene Cameron claiming the major honours.
The stroke round was sponsored by Stawell Lawn Mower Centre and The Pickering Family, with a strong field contesting the final round.
Bretherton produced a solid 77 to win the Men’s A-Grade round, finishing with a nett score of 77. Mal Elliott was runner-up with 93-15-78.
Peter Rathgeber claimed the Men’s B-Grade round with 94-19-75, while Barry Colyer finished runner-up with 105-29-76 on a countback from Phil Iles, who carded 95-19-76.
Jenny Bass won the Ladies event with 96-20-76, while Kaylene Cameron was runner-up with 86-4-82.
Cameron also claimed the birdie prize on the 10th hole, sponsored by Peter Delley, while Bretherton won the nearest-the-pin second-shot prize on the 18th.
Bretherton was crowned the 2026 Men’s Club Champion after finishing the 54-hole championship with a score of 219, ahead of Elliott.
He also claimed the 54-hole handicap championship with a nett score of 216, finishing ahead of Elliott on 219.
Rathgeber was crowned the 2026 B-Grade Club Champion with a 54-hole total of 285, ahead of Iles on 287 and Doug Collins on 288.
Colyer claimed the 54-hole B-Grade handicap championship with a nett score of 220, ahead of Rathgeber on 228.
In the Ladies, Cameron was crowned the 2026 Club Champion with a 54-hole total of 254, finishing ahead of Bass.
Bass claimed the 54-hole handicap championship with a nett score of 230, ahead of Cameron on 242.
The club extended its thanks to all sponsors who supported the championships, with a special acknowledgement going to the Pickering family.
It was a special occasion for Roger, Neil, David Pickering and Deb, who travelled from Melbourne to attend the event and support the generous sponsorship of the Men’s Club Championship in honour of Alan “Dick” Pickering.
Pickering was a founding and life member of Grange Golf Club and played at the Grange Farm as early as 1935, when he recorded an impressive round of 69 off a handicap of four.
He went on to win 14 Club Championships across the various Grange courses, claiming his first title 90 years ago in 1937.
Neil Pickering presented the trophies and also brought along memorabilia from his father’s golfing collection to share with current Grange members.
The memorabilia provided a special connection to the club’s history and was greatly appreciated by players and members on the day.
The club thanked the Pickering family once again for their generous support and for helping celebrate the remarkable golfing legacy of Alan “Dick” Pickering.
