Broadbent boots two in 350th senior game

Beaufort’s Seean Broadbent marked his 350th senior appearance in style on Saturday, kicking two goals and was the team’s best player in his side’s heavy defeat to Creswick at the Goldfields Recreation Reserve in round 16 of the Central Highlands Football League.

The Crows went down by 84 points, but the result did little to dampen the celebrations for Broadbent, who has been a one-club player since his junior days. In total, counting his years in the juniors, the match was his 450th in Beaufort colours.

Broadbent was joined by family, friends and former teammates who travelled from far and wide to mark the occasion.

“It’s a nice achievement and it’s something I can look back on in years to come,” he said.

“I have my kids here, along with family and friends that have travelled a long way, so it’s a very special day.”

In a long career, Broadbent has been durable, avoiding any major injuries.

“Apart from some minor muscle strains, I haven’t done anything serious like shoulders or knees,” he said.

“I’ve been very lucky in that respect.”

Broadbent is also a proud father of three with sons Jamison and Harrison and daughter Bonnie. Jamison currently plays in the under-15s while Harrison is in the under-12s.

Although Jamison still has several years before he’s eligible for senior football, Broadbent has not ruled out the possibility of sharing the field with him one day.

“I played a few games with my dad, so it would be nice if I could play with Jamison,” he said.

“You just never know. I’m not sure how many years I’ve got left playing but never say never.”
