Can anyone beat this?

IT seems to have been a good season for potatoes across the region, but can anyone top the efforts of Elmhurst’s John Rivett? John has always produced impressive results in his garden, but this year he has outdone himself with a potato weighing almost two kilograms.

The massive spud weighs 1.8 kilograms.

We asked John his secret.

“I’m not even sure what variety is it,” John said. Marg just had some old potatoes which I planted and this is the result.

“I use sheep manure and rotting lucerne. It obviously has done the trick,” he said.

We think this could be the biggest spud grown in our region and we challenge our readers to prove us wrong.
