Chalambar Golf moves clear at top

Chalambar Golf has moved one game clear at the top of the Grampians Lawn Bowls Playing Area Division One season following a strong 75-59 win over Stawell Golf, while equal leaders before the round, Ararat VRI, lost to Lake Bolac and District in an upset in sensational round ten action.

Chalambar Golf won all three rinks on the day, with Tony Carra’s rink winning a close battle by four shots. Featuring Richard Harricks, Aaron Pianta and Gary Todd, they won 27-23.  

Grant Seeary skippered his rink to a 23-17 win. Featuring Mark Griffits, Terry O’Connell and Hans Holz, they were too strong on the day.  

The rink skippered by Shane Todd, featuring Michael Jennings, Bill Waterston and Michael Franklin, won 25-19.  

Ararat VRI, the form team of the competition, stumbled at home to Lake Bolac and District, who won their second game of the season.  

In the 74-67 narrow victory, Lake Bolac won two rinks on the day.  

Ian Park’s rink, featuring Roger Flanner, Robert Stewart and John McInnes, won 26-24 over Brent Bulger, Brian Leehane, Craig Dunford and Mark Helmich.  

Jonathan Park skippered his rink to a massive 27-17 win. Featuring Andrew Robertson, Judith Veale and Colin McKenzie, they defeated Clayton Holcombe, James Bulger, Richard Schwab and Shelley Holcombe.  

Ararat VRI’s winning rink was skippered by Shane Briggs. Featuring Graeme Bates, Paul Bulger and David Coone, they won 26-21 over Rodney Ford, Raymond McLeod, Phillip Meek and Kenneth Thom.  

Landsborough and District relegated Ararat to the bottom of the ladder following an 81-49 win, winning two rinks on the day.

Roland Currie skippered his rink to a massive 34-9 win. Featuring Peter Browne, Garry Hutton and Gary Hannett, they defeated Daryle Baldock, Peter Bigmore, Bob Howland and Stanley Payne. 

Robert Hodgetts skippered his rink to a 27-18 win. Featuring Shane Vance, Michael Matthews and Corey Hope, they defeated Kerrin Gellie, Garry Eason, Ulrich Buescher and Russell Smith. 

Ararat’s winning rink won a thriller 22-20. Skippered by Peter Paterson, featuring Richard Fisher, Darren Williamson and Carmel Beer, they defeated Gerald Parry, Dennis Low, Ronald Hyde and Anthony Batchelor.  

Meanwhile, the closest match of the day was between Aradale and Stawell, with Aradale winning 76-73 in a thriller, winning two rinks on the day. 

Aradale’s rink, skippered by Gary Jamieson, featuring Gary Sherwell, Peter Oehm and Michael Dowling, won 29-26.  

Aradale’s other rink, skippered by Daniel Mahaoney, featuring Flynn Jamieson, Nathan Sladdin and Filipo Mitoui, won 35-7.  

In Division Two, despite losing to Stawell 48-81, Aradale remain a game clear on top of the ladder.  

In other results, Aradale Blue defeated Ararat 65-61, Lake Bolac and District defeated Ararat VRI 69-59, and Stawell Golf defeated Chalambar Golf 93-39.
