Colour run to celebrate inclusion

NORTHERN Grampians Shire Council, Grampians Youth Events and Stawell Amateur Athletic Club will join forces this Sunday for a colourful community event supporting IDAHOBIT Day. The free, family-friendly colour run will be held at the Ironbarks in Stawell on Sunday, May 17, with registration from 8.50am and the run beginning at 9.15am.

The run has been organised to acknowledge IDAHOBIT — the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia — which is observed each year to stand against discrimination, raise awareness and celebrate inclusion for LGBTQIA+ communities.

Council is supporting Grampians Youth Events and local partners to host colour run activities in both Stawell and St Arnaud, encouraging residents to show support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and gender-diverse members of the community.

In Stawell, Grampians Youth Events will partner with Stawell Amateur Athletic Club to host the morning run from the Ironbarks, at the corner of Centre and Golf Course roads.

Participants are encouraged to wear white, with coloured powder to be thrown throughout the course.

A limited number of T-shirts will be available for $5, cash only, while participants are also welcome to bring their own white shirt.

Organisers have described the run as a safe and welcoming activity open to everyone, with the event to remain free from drugs, alcohol, smoking and vaping.

The initiative aims to provide a visible show of support for LGBTQIA+ residents while also creating an opportunity for families, young people and the broader community to come together in a relaxed setting.

More information about IDAHOBIT Day is available at idahobit.org.au.
