Council backs major events
NORTHERN Grampians Shire has backed four tourism drawcards as part of its Major Tourism Events Partnership Program. The program establishes a multi-year partnership with major events, with a total annual funding allocation of $80,000, approved as part of the 2025/26 budget.
Applications for the Major Events Partnership program were received from five events with a recommendation to invest in four of these events to an annual value of nearly $80,000 with the intent being to establish a three year partnership (totalling $236,000 over three years).
Councill officers submitted a repot to this month’s meeting of councillors recommending four projects for council investment of cash and in-kind support.
Cr Jenny Greenberger moved that council support the recommendations with support from Cr Jack Blake.
The decision means Grampians Grape Escape will receive the largest grant of $45,710 per year followed by Run The Gap with a grant of $15,000.
Great Western Rodeo will receive $10,000 and ArampianArts $8,038 per year.
Council defines ‘major events’ as well-established, long-standing events that attract significant attendance, typically over 1,000 patrons.
These events are considered mature and have demonstrated their capacity to deliver economic and social benefits to the Northern Grampians Shire.
