Day of Music draws a crowd
BRASS bands from around Western Victoria gathered in Beaufort last Saturday for the annual Day of Music.

Hosted by the Beaufort Municipal Band, 11 bands made the journey including Stawell Brass Band, Ararat City Band, Ararat Development Band, Ballarat City Band and Horsham Rural City Band.
The bands played continuously all day at the Beaufort Town Hall, attracting hundreds of music lovers.
The event has grown steadily since its beginning with just three bands.
Music on the day ranged from classics to jazz and even pop covers.
Beaufort Municipal Band Music Director Carlye Rogan said it was a superb gathering of extremely talented musicians.
“It was fantastic. We ended having eleven groups perform on the day and it was great to see the community support around it and the support of all of the different groups.”
Ms Rogan said musicians of all ages took to the stage.
“We’ve got kids, especially the development group, up to some of our older members of the groups all being there together and enjoying the day together. Everyone got in and supported it, there was even some dancing up the back,” she said.
Ms Rogan said while there were a lot of band members and their families in attendance, there was also strong support from members of the public.
“We’ve been well supported by the community, that’s been fantastic to have them come along. I mean, what’s a band without a community to listen to us really,” she said.
“People were coming in and out (of the hall) all day but there would have been 100 people watching the bands at any one time throughout the day.
Ms Rogan said it was rewarding to see other groups performing to the large audience.
“Each year we have more people and more bands. It’s absolutely amazing to see everyone come together, the enjoyment of audience and people just enjoying being together.”
“It’s really just an opportunity for the bands to perform, showcase their talents and promote the great music and celebrate the community and the friendship we’ve got between the bands,” Ms Rogan said.
The Beaufort Municipal Band says The Day of Music is a permanent fixture on the local calendar and planning will start soon for the next event in 2026.
“We haven’t had a chance to get back together to discuss what it will look like next year but it will be something very similar we’re starting organisation now to plan for next year,” she said.
