Exceptional art at Deep Lead
As art shows go, the annual Deep Lead Art and Craft Exhibition is in a beautiful boutique category, almost on its own for uniqueness.
As art shows go, the annual Deep Lead Art and Craft Exhibition is in a beautiful boutique category, almost on its own for uniqueness.
Held in the historic former Deep Lead State School building, this building was school number 721, having originally opened on 1 January, 1859 and operated for 108 years closing on 31 December, 1967, some 57 plus years ago.
Converting to a beautiful small rural community hall, the Deep Lead Art Group organise and run the annual art and craft exhibition over Easter.
With the added bonus of Devonshire tea on offer after perusing the art works and selecting your nomination for the People’s Choice, the event is a very enjoyable one.
The proceeds from the sales of works and entry fees are contributed back to the hall for its upkeep – a win win.
Stawell artist Judy McPhee is a member of the group and co-organiser of the event along with Linda Anderson of Glenorchy.
Judy told the Stawell Times-News the event is a popular destination over the Easter weekend.
“The event is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of our local artists and we also invite others from the Western Victorian region to be a part of the show as well.”
There are many locals who visit every year and have many artworks purchased at Deep Lead hanging in their homes.
Michelle Mulvenney of Concongella comes every years and said she is never disappointed.
“It is a wonderful event and we look forward to coming along. It is always excellent and so enjoyable,” she added.
