Final days for 2Taggs
A popular Ararat business is about to close its doors after serving the fashion needs of Ararat women for 15 years.
2Taggs in Barkly Street opened in 2010 and has been the go-to business for women seeing the latest brands and styles.
But owner Leona Jennings said the last two years has seen business slow down and she recently made the ‘tough’ decision to wind back.
She told the Advocate this week it is the right decision, but it comes with some sadness.
“The shop has been tough for the last two years and with mum and dad passing away, dad especially was a big part of here and I though it’s not the same, it’s tough and after 15 years I’m done,” she said.
Leona said many good friendships have been formed through the shop.
“I have a lot of friends in town but made many more from out of the district. I’ve got a friend who comes from Warrnambool who I met through the shop. We get people coming through from Adelaide, Horsham, Bendigo, everywhere. I’m going to miss all that,” she said.
Leona said the COVID years were particularly good for the business.
“Online sales were fantastic, but I think people bought off me at that time to help, people wanted to support us, I’m sure people would buy a windcheater because they thought we needed a boost. It was good during COVID, and online was good too Leona said the cost of running the business has skyrocketed.
“Our rent has doubled, electricity has gone up and I don’t try to price anything over $200, but everything else has gone up but you can’t put your clothing up,” she said.
Leona said many people have helped her through the 15 year journey, but she singled out her lifelong friend and co-worker Rhonda Waterston.
“Rhonda has been with me from day one and her friendship and support has been amazing.”
2Taggs is open for another week at 174 Barkly Street Ararat with all stock heavily discounted.
“I’ve loved it, but the time has come. I’m going to miss the people, the friendships and the clothes,” she said.
Leona said she was extremely grateful to the hundreds of people who’ve supported her over the past 15 years.
“A huge thank you to the Ararat community, thank you for allowing me to dress you, thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives.”
