Fresh Rats blow Saints away
Ararat has stormed out of the blocks following their bye, with a 93-point win over the Horsham Saints at Coughlin Park in round 17 of the Wimmera Football Netball League.
In what mirrored the last time the teams played, Ararat kicked four goals to one behind to lead by 30 points at quarter-time.
The Saints found their groove in the second, putting up a fight, kicking four goals in the term to trail by 17 points at half-time.
After a rev-up from Tom Williamson and Tom Mills at half-time, the Rats demolished the Saints in the third quarter, kicking seven goals to one behind to lead by 58 points at three-quarter time.
The Saints could only manage one behind in the last, as the Rats ran out the game strong, winning 17.18.120 to 4.3.27.
Sonny Kettle led the scoring with four goals, while Tom Mills, Ben Taylor, and Tom Williamson kicked three. Matthew Spalding was the other multiple goalkicker with two, while Baydn Cosgriff and Hugh Toner also hit the scoreboard with one apiece.
Sonny Kettle was judged best-on-ground, while Ben Taylor, Naish McRoberts, Jake Robinson, Patrick Toner and Hugh Toner were named among the best.
The Rats now play second-placed Nhill at Alexandra Oval tomorrow in the final match of the home and away season.
Nhill responded from their 10-goal loss to the Southern Mallee Thunder the week before to easily dispose of Minyip Murtoa by five goals.
The top-of-the-table clash will be a good hit out for both teams on the eve of the finals, as they could face each other in two weeks.
