Grampians Junior Cricket roundup
Round ten of the Grampians Junior Cricket Association saw mixed results, with some blowout wins and close wins over both the mixed under-13 and under-16 grades.
On Friday at North Park, Stawell, Swifts/Great Western defeated Buangor by nine wickets. Bowling first, they restricted Buangor to 8/38 off 16 overs, with Luke Fulton the pick of the bowlers with 2/3 (2).
Lucinda Russell top scored with an unbeaten six for Buangor, while Evalyn Hayward and Lucas Miller both scored four apiece.
In reply, Swifts/Great Western scored 1/110 with Tom Scott and Archie Coxon top scoring with 17. Luke Fulton scored 15, while Jack Duxson (13) and Lenny Field (12) batted well.
Shaelee Hayward took the only wicket and finished with 1/6 off two overs.
In the other match, Tatyoon Gold defeated Pomonal by 102 runs.
Pomonal batted first and were bowled out for 56, with James Roberts top scoring with 18. Ted Tucker was the pick of Gold’s bowlers with 3/1 (3), while James McConachy and Sophie King finished with 2/7 (3) and 2/4 (2), respectively.
In reply, Tatyoon scored 3/158 with Tom King top scoring with 28 and William Jarrett scoring 22. Charlotte McPhan (1/10) and Walter Brewis (1/11) were the wicket takers for Pomonal.
On Sunday, Swifts/Great Western Red and Tatyoon recorded strong wins.
Swifts/Great Western defeated Pomonal by five runs in a thrilling encounter at Moyston Recreation Reserve. Batting first, they scored 7/136 with Ethan Parker top scoring with an unbeaten 41, while fellow opener, Max Croft, scored 40.
Pomonal was led by Jim Hewitt and Wilhelm Mellors with 2/13 and 2/0, respectively.
In reply, Pomonal were bowled out for 131 with Mellors the star with an unbeaten 64 off just 69 deliveries. Elijah Da Costa also played well, scoring 36.
Lenny Field led the way with the ball for Swifts/Great Western, taking 3/8 off his two overs, while Alexander Simpkin and Eden Croft both picked up two wickets apiece.
At North Park, Tatyoon defeated Swifts/Great Western Blue in a possible grand final preview.
Batting first, Tatyoon scored 4/164 off their 30 overs with Hamish Barr top scoring with 42. George King and Edward Astbury also batted strongly with 41 and 30, respectively.
Swifts/Great Western was led by Tom Ross, who took two wickets for three runs off his two overs.
In reply, Swifts/Great Western were bowled out for 103 in the 28th over with Ryder Sullivan top scoring with 41.
Oliver Munro was the destroyer with the ball, taking 4 wickets for only four runs.
