Great morning for a ride
SUPERB weather conditions last Wednesday made for a perfect morning at Stawell Pony Club for the team from Stawell’s Riding for the Disabled Association of Victoria group to host riders from Skene Street Specialist School.
RDA’s Stawell outpost relies on kindness and generosity from the local community to provide and maintain the horses that riders interact with.
One of Stawell RDA’s most prominent supporters is long-time contributor Stawell Gold Mines, whose ongoing sponsorship has provided helmets, fenced yards, and providing for the upkeep of one of the RDA group’s horses, Adam.
Adam is a Standardbred gelding that used to get around trotting tracks under the name Grinning Assassin, trained by Kerryn Manning, Grant Campbell and Steve Duffy, and owned by Greg Bettiol.
Another ex-harness racing Standardbred gelding at Stawell RDA is Saxon, who trots followers would know as Her Ex and I, who had 10 wins, 12 runners-up and nine third-place finishes across 98 starts, trained by Michelle Whyte and owned by Geoff Sanderson.
For younger riders at Wednesday’s RDA session, Booka the Shetland pony was on hand for a ride around the course.
