Great Western students shine at Energy Breakthrough
GREAT Western Primary School has returned home riding high after an impressive performance at the Maryborough Energy Breakthrough competition, placed third overall in the under-200 student division.

Students spoke proudly of their achievements in the event’s demanding physical challenges.
Finlay, who has participants over the last few years, said the team was thrilled with their results.
“We actually won an award for the best under 200 track,” he said.
“We do obstacles, sprints and we do endurance and we won the best overall. We did the best out of all of the small schools in the obstacle course. That was amazing.”
Despite the excitement, nerves were high as students saw the scale of the competition.
“It was kind of nerve wracking thinking we've only got one small chance but it's also really fun,” said Finlay.
Rhylan described the experience as “very adrenaline pumping,” and thanked the younger students for their support.
“You could hear them from the other side, about 40 metres away,” he said. “Wasn't too loud that it made your ears ring.”
Principal Kerri-Ann Harris said the school community was incredibly proud.
“We are exceptionally proud of them, they do a great job,” she said.
“Some of our grade 4’s are competing against grade 6’s and doing a fantastic job. It's all about giving your best effort. Our big spiel before we started was just go out there and have fun and because we had awesome very nervous kids go out there and have fun, they won the obstacle,” she said.
Ms Harris also praised the support from families.
“Just about all our families turned up and support and watched the events so it’s been fabulous, it’s a good community building activity.”
