Hotter showers for campers
CAMPERS at Green Hill Lake will now need a gold coin for a hot wash, with the Green Hill Lake Development Board officially switching on new coin-operated showers last Friday.
The upgrade means the four stalls at the main toilet block are now operated with a $2 coin, giving users five minutes of water with adjustable temperatures.
Board member Morris Allgood said the change had been made after feedback from campers.
“The purpose of it was before they only had one tap and one heat all the time,” he said.
“Some people were saying they had it too hot, some were saying it was too cold. So now we’ve put in mixer valves and they can adjust their own water. It’s better for the campers.”
The new time limit is also expected to make hot water available to more people, after reports that some campers were using showers for up to 20 minutes at a time.
Board member Gwenda Allgood said the change would also help cover ongoing costs.
“The thing is there are so many people living here that aren’t contributing and this is a way of getting some money to help the committee,” she said.
“Without the council we couldn’t manage it, they pay for the cleaning, but it’s a bit of a struggle to make ends meet all the time. This will contribute a little bit. It does take a bit of time and expense to actually run these places.”
The board says the new system will be monitored and adjusted if needed, with the aim of balancing fairness for campers and sustainability for the site.
