Ice skating comes to town
ARARAT Rural City Council has embarked on an ambitious plan to bring ice skating to Ararat. Council this week confirmed its "Skate into Summer" event offering locals and visitors a unique cool escape from the summer heat. From 12th – 14th December, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a unique opportunity to skate on ice at the Ararat Town Hall.
The auditorium will be transformed to create a festive atmosphere, complete with music and lighting.
Council believes the event will be a major attraction for Ararat, bringing visitors from nearby communities.
This family-friendly event will offer a range of sessions for all ages and skill levels, including dedicated times for children and themed nights.
The skating kicks off on Friday 12th December and will also include giveaways and a selection of food trucks offering delicious treats to kick off the three-day event.
Council CEO said the ice rink will cost around $42,000 which will be largely recouped from ticket sales.
He said council believes it will be a huge drawcard for Ararat.
“I think it is really important we have some attractions to bring people to town. It will also be a huge boost for our retail precinct,” he said.
“The aim is to activate the precinct there and have some people in and around town to spend some money, that foreign income is really important for us,” Dr Harrison said.
Mayor Jo Armstong said council was incredibly excited to bring this all-new event to Ararat.
“Ararat Town Hall is a much-loved landmark, and this is a fantastic way to activate the space and offer a fresh, fun activity for our community.
“We look forward to seeing this event not only bring people together for some summer fun but also encourage visitors to explore all that our CBD has to offer and support our wonderful local businesses.”
Tickets are currently on sale with further tickets to go on sale at the door.
Early-bird discounts will be offered for families and group bookings. All necessary equipment, including skates, will be included with ticket purchase.
