Kookaburras reclaim top spot
Halls Gap Kookaburras has reclaimed top position in the Horsham Cricket Association’s C-Grade competition following a powerful 94-run win over Laharum at Laharum Sports and Community Centre last Saturday.
After losing the toss and being sent into bat, the Kookaburras lost Spencer Campbell early for five.
Charlie McIntosh and Bailey Stirling came together to form a strong partnership, with McIntosh retiring not out after hitting half a century, which put the Kookaburras in a strong position.
Adam McCormack came to the crease and fell for a duck, and when Bailey Stiring fell for 17 shortly after, the Kookaburras were 3/88.
The Kookaburras then lost their next six wickets for just 17 runs before Charlie McIntosh returned to the crease.
McIntosh, in a partnership with Cameron Gilmor, added another 35 runs before he was caught by Tristan March off Joshua Hawker’s bowling for 82, as the Kookaburras were bowled out for 140 in the 35th over.
The Halls Gap Kookaburras defended their total with precision, with Caleb Bretherton ripping through Laharum’s top order, taking five wickets as the Kookaburras bowled them out for 46 in the 20th over.
Bretherton finished with remarkable figures of 5/10 off six overs, including three maidens. Clintin Slorach also bowled brilliantly, claiming three wickets for one run in four overs, with three maidens.
The Kookaburras will now travel to Sunnyside Recreation Reserve in Horsham to take on eighth-placed Homers.
