Lighting up the streets for Christmas

IT’S always a lot of fun to see the creative and elaborate ideas people come up with to decorate their house at Christmas, and in Stawell the tradition of running a competition for the best Christmas light display is very much alive this year.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Main Street, with Stawell's Christmas decorations going up around town this week. Stawell’s branch of the Country Women’s Association took the reigns of the annual Christmas Lights Competition a few years back when the local Lions club was going through a period of change, and the event is as strong as ever, with Stawell Lions cheering them on.

Anyone can enter the competition by simply dropping into the Stawell Library and registering, and prizes are being supplied by Stawell Lions and Mitre 10, with the first prize being a Mitre 10 gift voucher.

For Christmas light enthusiasts who can’t make it into the library, entrants can also reach out to Stawell CWA via Facebook to register for the competition.

The competition is set to be adjudicated on Wednesday, December 10 and all entrants must have their displays lit up until at least 11pm on judging night, making the night of the 10th a great time to drive around town to marvel at the creativity of local residents.
