Moyston’s General Store to close
MOYSTON will soon farewell its much-loved general store, with owner Julie-Ann Rose set to close the doors this Sunday after almost eight years at the helm.
The decision marks the end of an era for the township, which had gone without a store for seven years before Julie-Ann revived the site.
“The community was so excited to have something back in here, and we make delicious coffees, so everyone was pretty happy about that. It was lovely developing the business, with the support of the community.”
Julie-Ann said the final week has been filled with emotional goodbyes from locals.
“I cried so much yesterday, it was crazy,” she admitted.
Julie-Ann explained that while the shop has been on the market for two years, her choice to close is driven by a desire to move closer to family.
“I thought ‘oh, I’ll wait it out until the right person comes along’, and because I love it here. I love the community and I love what I’ve created here,” she said.
“So I was happy to just wait. Not long ago, in a matter of weeks, I decided that’s it, it’s time to move. When I make a decision, it’s like that’s it.”
Over the years, the store attracted not only locals but also interstate and even international visitors.
“They found us by accident the first time, and then ever since, they come here,” she said.
Despite the closure, Julie-Ann hopes the business will find new owners to continue serving the community.
“I’m hoping it’ll be taken over relatively soon,” she said.
Julie-Ann said she will miss the daily connections most of all.
“It’s going to be very sad, so just trying to be able to have a bit of time with everyone that comes in is a bit important to me,” she said.
