Murph marks 38 years of service
38 years with the same employer is a long time. But Beaufort’s Shayne Murphy has loved and cherished his job ever since he started with the old Ripon Shire back in 1988.

When he started on October 25, 1988, Bob Hawke was Prime Minister, Alien Nation and Cocktail were the big movies at the box office and the song Time Of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes was at the top of the charts.
Shayne spent 29 years working as a plant operator with the Ripon and Pyrenees Shires before being promoted to grader driver/leading hand on 6 March 2017.
On 1 April 2023, he became the Beaufort Works Officer managing the depot before his retirement.
Pyrenees Shire Council CEO Jim Nolan praised Mr Murphy for his long-standing service to Council.
“Shayne (or Murph as he is better known) has been a massive stalwart of our works team for 38 years. He has worked his way through the ranks to eventually head up our Beaufort depot in his characteristic laconic style,” Mr Nolan said.
“His long career for first Ripon Shire and then Pyrenees Shire reflects his exemplary work ethic, and his outstanding reputation both within the organisation and the community shows his enormous strength of character.
“Murph will be very sorely missed around the organisation,” Mr Nolan said.
On social media, Mayor Damian Ferrari paid tribute to his life-long friend.
“Congratulations big fella, what an amazing achievement. The most loyal and caring friend anyone could have and I cherish it immensely,” he wrote.
Murph officially finished up with council in December.
