No steins, just fine wine, Oktoberbest at Best’s Winery
BEST’S Wines is swapping lederhosen and steins for wine glasses and good company this month, hosting its first-ever “Oktoberbest”, a community day of wine, food, music, and local spirit on the 26th of October.
Best Winery’s Jess Da Costa said the celebration is a playful twist on the traditional German festival.
“We’re holding our inaugural Oktoberbest, it’s a bit of a spin on Oktoberfest but a little more upper class,” Ms Da Costa said.
“It’s still a lot of fun, all about wine, good friends, good food, and good community.”
Local brewery Paper Scissors Rock Brew Co. will join the festivities, setting up a pop-up brewhouse and bringing a selection of beers just for the occasion.
“The guys up there have been brewing some special beers to bring down,” said Jess.
The Great Western Football Netball Club will be firing up the barbecues, serving German sausages and steak sandwiches as part of a fundraiser for the club.
“I’m really happy to be able to support them, we’ve got a great relationship with our local sporting club,” Ms Da Costa said.
Adding to the community feel, Great Western Primary School will also be fundraising by selling soft drinks and lollies on the day.
Around 10 local artisan stalls will create a mini market, showcasing handmade goods, while live music from The Doodads will entertain the crowd from 12pm to 4pm.
“We’re telling people to bring a picnic blanket or camp chair, sit on the grass and just relax. It’s a family-friendly event, we want everyone to come down with their kids, friends, and loved ones, and just enjoy being together.”
Set among Best’s picturesque gardens and gum trees, Oktoberbest promises a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
“We’ve got such a beautiful venue, why not use it to bring people together? It’s going to be a really great festival, the first of many, we hope,” Ms Da Costa said.
Oktoberbest will be held on Sunday, October 26, at Best’s Wines, Great Western.
