What a busy weekend it has been but what a great start to October. The Resilient Homes Expo, with the amazing special guest Costa, was a great opportunity for residents to understand how to make their homes bushfire resilient, and to understand climate adaptation and sustainable living. There was also a great amount of information disseminated on the day on communication and connectivity during emergencies.

This day was held at the Lexton Community Hub, and we thank all those involved and who participated on the day. Further Fire Ready sessions are going to be held across the Shire with six sessions and the information for those sessions is available on the Council website at pyrenees.vic.gov.au or the CFA website at cfa.vic.gov.au. Check these out for more details to prepare yourself for the upcoming summer.
The Beaufort Big day out, including the amazing mentalist and magician Cath Jamison, was a forum that was about entertainment but also about providing information on super for the seniors in our community. It was a great start to the Victorian Seniors Festival but there are many more events and to find out more about these events check out the website.
On the other end of the age scale, our L2P program is also going strong. If you have a learner aged between 16 and 21 in Pyrenees Shire, and they don’t have access to a car or a supervising driver, the TAC L2P program can help with up to seven free professional driving lesson lessons. For further information jump on each.com.au.
The Carranballac Progress Association and Hoedowns for Country Towns also held a hoedown at the start of the month. The team hosted a wonderful event that even the average weather couldn’t keep people away from.
An amazing dress display event was also held at the Skipton Hall involving the fire affected residents again. It was an incredibly well attended and well-run event and congratulations to all those involved!
The Skipton to Streatham Fire Recovery Network also met again last week to connect with community and departments to ensure concerns are still being met and that the community continues to be supported to be able to heal from the January events of this year.
Coming up we have a comedy night at the Streatham Hall which will be held on 29 October. Dave O’Neil and Brad Oakes will be the entertainers for the evening. For further information, email karen.sherlock@pyrenees.vic.gov.au.
We also have the amazing Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally coming up on the weekend of 31 October and 1 November - again an event the whole family can enjoy so put that on your calendar!
