Popular kebab shop closes
A popular Ararat eatery has closed its doors, much to the dismay of its local clientele.

A popular Ararat eatery has closed its doors, much to the dismay of its local clientele.
Ararat Kebab House has been run for the past four and a half years by Eyan Habib and his family, but they recently made the decision to move on.
In a post on social media, Mr Habib said it had been an honour to serve the Ararat community.
“We had a wonderful time building up the shop to what it is today with all your support and I can’t thank you enough for your kindness that you have shown over this period.”
“The business is doing wonderfully well but I haven’t been able to give much time to my young kids and my amazingly supportive wife thus have taken the decision to close,” he wrote.
Mr Habib told the Advocate this week, it was a hard decision to make.
“I’ve had tears in my eyes, I couldn’t imagine the way that people have come and said thank you and that they are sad we are going. I didn’t expect it. I thought no one would care but it turns out the full opposite,” he said.
Mr Habib said he knew things had to change when his five year old son pointed out he had spent his school holidays at the shop.
“I told my father in India and he said Eyan, if you don’t have time for your kids now, they’re not going to have time for you later on. He said, you need to think about what you are doing,” Mr Habib said.
“This is a decision made for my family, they come first. I want to make some memories with them now.”
News of the shops closure was met by dismay from regular customers on social media with comments like:
Thank you for your amazing service and food for the past 4 years. We wouldn't have gone anywhere else.
This very sad for us foodies but the best news for (your) family. Good luck!
Food is absolutely amazing and so is the friendly staff. You all will be dearly missed. All the very best for your future endeavours.
I am sorry to see you go but understand why you need to.
You will be sadly missed! The best kebabs in town and the best potato cakes in the WORLD!
While the shop may be closing, Eyan Habib and his family are staying in Ararat having recently built a new home.
