Program delivers faster, better connectivity
ELEVEN mobile and broadband projects are now completed around Ararat Rural City under the Victorian Government’s Connecting Victoria program.
The program is delivering deliver 1,300 mobile and broadband projects, with more than 900 in regional Victoria.
A total of sixteen projects have been funded in the Ararat municipality including fourteen telecommunications towers as well as a public wi-fi project and an NBN tower in Ararat township.
Three of the four telecommunications towers promised for Ararat are now operational along with new towers at Westmere, Dobie, Mount Cole, Norval, Pomonal and Westmere.
A second tower at Pomonal is expected to be operational early next year along with new towers at Aradale, Green Hill Lake, Lake Bolac North and Maroona.
A new NBN tower in Ararat is also now operational.
While the Commonwealth is responsible for telecommunications services in Australia, the Connecting Victoria program continues to invest in mobile and internet infrastructure to address connectivity gaps in regional communities.
Minister for Government Services Natalie Hutchins said reliable mobile and internet coverage is essential for communities to access emergency services and check on family during emergencies.
“Connecting Victoria is all about making our state the best connected in Australia – and this latest milestone shows we are well on the way to achieving that goal.”
“More than two million Victorian homes and businesses will benefit from Connecting Victoria’s projects – helping Victorians to stay connected with family, work and study,” Ms Hutchins said.
