Reject shop to be rebranded
ARARAT’s Reject Shop will soon disappear as its new Canadian owners rebrand the business.
Reject Shops commenced around 40 years ago and have grown to become one of the largest retail chains with 390 stores.
But the name Reject Shop is set to vanish and be replaced by Dollarama.
The new owners say customers can expect to see more American-branded goods, cheaper everyday essentials, and a wave of private-label products on old Reject Shop shelves.
Budget store giant Dollarama completed its $259m takeover of the ASX-listed The Reject Shop last month, acquiring the chain’s 390-plus stores around the country.
Dollarama is yet to confirm whether it will mimic its popular “nothing over $5” pledge used in its over 1600 stores across the globe.
It has been reported Australians are likely to get access to a broader product range, with Dollarama pledging access to its own items, having already reportedly registered dozens of local trademarks.
The Reject Shop was founded in Melbourne more than 40 years ago by businessmen Ron Hall and John Shuster.
Store conversion is reportedly already underway at some locations, with new shelving similar to those seen in supermarkets – a grid layout featuring long, parallel aisles that run north-south to guide shoppers through the store.
Dollarama CEO Neil Rossy has previously said the company’s plans for The Reject Shop included vastly lowering shelf prices, introducing new products and almost doubling its store count to 700 stores by 2034.
