Belinda Cosgrave and Joan Quinlan were pleased to show off their committee’s latest project at the Avoca Pool – a new public address system funded by the Community Grants Program.

Funded by the Avoca District Co-operative Limited, this grant program is made possible through the Bendigo Bank branches it manages in Avoca, Maryborough, and St Arnaud.

As a social enterprise, the Co-operative reinvests the majority of its profits into the community, supporting local projects and initiatives.

The program is also assisted by the Community Enterprise Foundation, which helps facilitate funding and administration.

It aims to provide financial support to organisations working to make a positive impact in the region.

Earlier this year, several local groups benefited from $53,000 of grants from the bank including Pyrenees Mental Health and Wellbeing Network, Pyrenees Community House, Avoca Riverside Market and Avoca Friends of the Pool.

Community groups across the district are urged to start planning their applications now to allow enough time to organise letters of support, quotes, and permits.

Assistant Branch Manager Aley Earl said the grants are a way of thanking the community for their support.

“These grants are made possible thanks to the banking support of our customers. Together, we have contributed over $2.6 million back into our communities, funding important local projects and initiatives,” she said.

Avoca District Co-operative Executive Officer Julie Driscoll is urging community groups with worthwhile projects to apply for funding.

“We’d love to see as many local groups as possible benefit from this funding. We highly recommend giving us a call to chat about your application. It’s the best way to check your eligibility, make sure you’ve got the right documents, and get tips before you apply,” she said.

For support, contact Julie Driscoll on 0411 234 800 or email secretary@avocacoop.com.au
