The day recognises police officers across Australia who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. It is also a time to remember Victoria Police employees who have passed away in the past year through illness or other circumstances.

Senior Sergeant Rob Gibson said the day holds great significance.

“It’s always going to be important to reflect on those who have served and serve the community. To take that moment to stop, think and reflect helps us all grow as people,” he said.

“Nobody expects to come to work and not go home, and that’s likewise with our families.”

Senior Sergeant Terry Hill added that the service is a chance for everyone to pay their respects.

“Not just the blue family, but everyone within the community wants to pay their respects on the day,” he said.

The service will take place outside the Stawell Library at 10 am, with all community members and Police Legatees welcome to attend.
