As part of the final day of Term 1, Marian College held its annual Stations of the Cross at Alexandra Gardens last week, a tradition that continues to evolve with time.

Principal Catherine Howison said it was a significant event with a powerful meaning.

“In preparation for Easter, the Year 12 students have dramatised the Stations of the Cross continuing a long-held Marian College tradition with support of Ms Drake-Bemelmans, Ms Hogan and Ms Bulger.

“The Stations were dramatised along a two kilometre walking path, set in the beautiful and evocative Alexandra Gardens. Families, friends and community members were invited to walk and pray the Stations of the Cross with us,” she said.

Mrs Howison acknowledged the global context of the practice.

“We've done Stations of the Cross in all the schools that I've worked at, but never in a community setting, and never in this sort of meditative walking way. I think it’s a beautiful thing. It’s our year of hospitality, so we thought opening this up for the community members to experience was something we needed to do.”

Ms Howison was full of praise for the students' creativity and interpretation of each Station.

“Each group does it differently, and that’s part of the beauty and richness of it, because they bring their own interpretation to it,” she said.
