A group of students from Stawell Secondary College took the opportunity ahead of Harmony Day to share what they are learning about Chinese culture at school.

Students Kayan Barnes, Isaiah Taylor, Noah Harvey, Earl Prestijo and Claire Scott, along with their teacher Ling Zhao took over story time at the Stawell Library on Thursday, March 20, for their special presentation.

“We just simply learn Chinese in the classroom and we learn about different cultural events,” Isaiah said.

“From there, Ms Ling and other community events help us express that to other people.”

The group were special guest storytellers and put on a performance inspired by Chinese culture.

“I love doing Chinese classes,” Kayan said.

“[It’s] probably one of my favourite classes in school.”

Kayan said the opportunity to learn about a different culture is what makes Chinese class so good.

“It's very encouraging,” Ms Ling said.

“Given we’re so remote and far away from the big cities, the kids are doing an incredible job for demonstrating their passions of learning different cultures.”
